Helix Community Schools names Jennifer Gordon as executive director, founding principal Helix AI & Medical Academy in Opelousas

BATON ROUGE, La., Monday, April 22, 2024 – Helix Community Schools recently named Jennifer Gordon, executive director for growth and opportunities and founding principal of Helix AI (Artificial Intelligence) & Medical Academy (Helix AIM) in Opelousas. The school is set to open in 2025. 

In her new role, Gordon will be responsible for launching the new school, overseeing personnel, business operations and academic success.

The veteran educator and administrator brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge with more than 20 years of experience. She previously served as a teacher, interventionist, dean of Special Education, and the principal of a K-8 school in Lafayette Parish. 

“I’m excited about this great opportunity to lead the growth of Helix AI & Medical in St. Landry Parish and help provide a cutting-edge education for our students,” Gordon said. “I’m looking forward to building relationships with our parents and teachers and the entire community to help prepare our students for exciting careers in AI and the medical field.”

Helix AI & Medical Academy is a public charter school that will offer classes for students in kindergarten through fifth grades, expanding to grades sixth through eighth in 2026. The goal is to add a grade level each year to become a K-12 school by 2030.  The 42,000 state-of-the-art facility will be located on 25 acres of land next to Our Savior’s Church off of I-49 which is a busy area with various businesses nearby including a medical facility.

Gordon earned a bachelor’s degree in arts education from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Grand Canyon University.
